Awara vs. Happsy

better sleep, naturally

We all sleep, right? But we all don’t sleep equally. Some of that can have to do with the genetics that we’re born with, but more often than not it comes down to the kind of mattress that we sleep on. That being said, it’s totally maddening to pick out a mattress these days. There are just so many options. We understand that your time is valuable to you, and that you don’t exactly want to spend hours and hours combing through mattress sites so that you can find the perfect fit.

That’s why at Awara we’re doing the work for you. We want to solve the enigma of buying a great mattress and show you in a simple step-by-step breakdown how our mattresses compare to some of the industry leaders. We’ve taken the biggest factors that people look for in a mattress and broken them down into easy-to-understand sections so that you can make an informed decision before buying your next mattress. After all, this is the decision of your life — you’ll be spending a third of your life sleeping on it.

In this example, we’ve highlighted some of the most important determinants for what makes a great mattress. It’s time to discover some of those key differences between Awara and the Happsy mattress. We’re here to make this go as smoothly as possible. Read on and learn how the Awara stacks up.

Hybrid Design

Hybrid mattresses represent the newest in mattress tech. They combine the mechanical workings of an innerspring mattress (for a classic feel and tension) with the soft cushioning comfort of a latex or memory foam support layer. Both the Awara and Happsy mattresses are constructed this way, though they differ in their execution. How? We’re glad you asked.

Awara hangs its hat on its superior design. The Awara mattress has premium individually-wrapped pocket coils that form a supportive base on which everything else rests. This 9” support layer is vitally important to the rest of the system and uses one-of-a-kind pocket coil technology to deliver a great feeling of support. This is augmented by a latex layer of 4” of natural Rainforest Alliance Certified latex. This layer, the comfort layer, is soft and offers relief for the body’s natural pressure points like the hips and lower back.

The Happsy mattress is also a hybrid mattress. It’s got an 8” pocketed springs and a 2” organic latex layer. One thing to note: Happsy also includes small organic cotton filling underneath the pocketed springs. It is similar in design to the Awara, though it is worth noting that the latex layer for a Happsy is half of what it is in an Awara. That can make a big difference, especially if comfort is a big selling point for you in a mattress. While the coils are almost the same, it is that latex layer that could make the vital difference.

Latex

From start to finish, Awara uses Rainforest Alliance Certified latex. It’s sustainably sourced, which is great because it both feels amazing and gives you peace of mind that you’re helping the environment. The Awara also takes this a step further by guaranteeing that this mattress is made without many of the chemicals that are found in other mattresses made from unnatural or inorganic materials.

This is comparable in the Happsy mattress. Happsy mattresses meet the organic non-toxic standards for a certification from the USDA. They also don’t use off-gassing or other harmful techniques that can be considered harmful in other mattresses.

In short, both of these mattresses deliver on the promise of organic latex, which shouldn’t be overlooked. Not only does that mean that they sleep more comfortably, but they are also better for the environment. You can sleep easy in an Awara knowing that you’re doing your part to make the world a better place to live. Those with a clean conscious sleep best!

Latex Layer

While both of these hybrids have a top latex layer built into their design, it’s worth noting that the Awara has double the latex of the Happsy. Not only does that mean that you’ll feel more comfortable in an Awara, but it also could prove to be more durable in the long run. That’s worth noting, especially as the less latex used in the process, the more likely it is to wear out. That cushioning proves vital, especially as your mattress ages so that you can continue to relieve areas of pressure and sleep better.

Euro Top

Every Awara prides itself on “eco-luxury” which means that each mattress is topped with a positively decadent, silky-soft certified cover of Certified 100% Organic Wool fiber from New Zealand. These materials and design were specially chosen to increase the airflow at night and keep the temperature neutral. Awara sleepers have said that they love the luxurious and firm feel of an Awara mattress, giving it the coveted “Goldilocks rating”. That means it isn’t too soft, it isn’t too hard, it sleeps at the right temperature, and it feels just right.

Happsy does not have a euro top, instead choosing to go with a thin cotton fabric and sewn wool batting for their mattress. While the same idea still applies and their choice of materials are good, the design isn’t quite there in the same way as an Awara mattress.

Organic Materials

Not only does Awara have Rainforest Alliance Certified latex, they also use sustainably sourced methods so that it can be as green and environmentally-friendly as possible. The Awara also contains Certified 100% Organic Wool fiber from New Zealand for their covers. This means you can sleep the untroubled sleep of a clear conscience, knowing that not only is your bed super comfy, it’s also super good for the earth.

Happsy also does a good job of using organic materials. They have an organic cotton fabric, organic wool batting, organic wool latex, and organic cotton filling. This is one area where we are lucky that both mattresses do their best to stay environmentally friendly. We only have one earth!

With Awara, You Get More than a Latex Hybrid Mattress. You Get to Sleep Better, Naturally.

The Awara mattress offers a 365-day trial period. That’s the leading trial period in the entire mattress industry. Most other mattress companies offer between 100-120 days, but Awara believes in its product so much that they want you to spend an entire year sleeping on it before deciding to make it your new mattress. You can sleep easy, taking your time to realize that you’ve made the perfect decision -- no matter the season or weather. An Awara is built for year-round comfort and that’s reflected in their trial policy.

The Happsy mattress takes a more traditional approach, offering only a 120-night free trial. While this is the industry standard, it does showcase what makes the Awara different. It’s scary to think that you’ll only have a few short months to get used to the mattress, call it your own, and then make the decision on whether to buy it or not. You don’t have to be a math whiz to understand that 365 is a bigger number than 120.

Free Shipping: Both Awara and Happsy offer free shipping. That’s great news for mattress buyers. It means no hidden fees or a sudden increase in price when you check out. What you see is what you get -- that’s a beautiful thing.

Free Returns: Awara makes returns super simple. At any point during your 365-night trial you decide that you’re not totally satisfied, you can return your Awara for no additional cost. The customer service support team will help you with every easy step, just contact us via phone call and we’ll be delighted to help. It’s just that simple. From start to finish Awara wants you to be satisfied with the entire process of buying a mattress. That’s how we’ve made our reputation.

Happsy also does free returns during their abbreviated trial length (only 120 days), but there’s also some confusing language on their website. They suggest that you keep your delivery box so that it makes the return process easier. It sounds like a hassle and a chore to continuously keep a box that you aren’t using in the event of a return. While it’s technically free, it sounds like you may end up paying some shipping costs if you don’t keep the box.

Mattress Setup/Removal: Awara offers a White Glove Delivery Service which not only delivers and sets up your new mattress, but also will take away your old mattress. That can be extremely helpful, especially for folks who can’t do manual labor on their own. This service is offered for an additional $149 dollars at checkout. Happsy does not offer any sort of set up or removal help. On their website, it says that they depend on the customer to figure it out for themselves.

When you’re making a large purchase like a mattress, it’s really important that you understand the warranty that goes along with it. After all, this is probably the most expensive piece of furniture in your house. That means you want a guarantee that the mattress will stay in great shape for as long as possible. No one wants to go through the hassle of having a terrible mattress.

Awara exceeds the industry standard, which is only 10 years on average, by offering a Forever Warranty. Most mattresses wear out right along the time their warranty is over, meaning that ten years in they don’t sleep the same. The Forever Warranty means that you’re covered forever. If at any point you find defects in the materials, craftsmanship, or durability of your mattress, Awara works with you to fix the issue or replace the mattress. It’s that simple. When you buy an Awara it’s guaranteed forever.

Happsy offers a 20-year warranty. While this does exceed the industry average, it doesn’t come close to measuring up to a Forever Warranty. It’s just hard to compete with a guarantee that lasts forever. Those guarantees don’t come around very often.

We Never Compromise

Certifications

Awara is both natural and organic -- it’s something we take very seriously. It’s certified to meet the Rainforest Alliance Certified standards for organic materials and uses 100% certified organic cotton and Certified 100% Organic Wool fiber from New Zealand, with no petroleum-based polyurethane foams, chemical adhesives, chemical fire retardants, or memory foams. That’s a lot of work to ensure that you’re getting a great, natural mattress that’s healthy for you and for the environment.

Happsy also does not use poly foams or toxic chemicals. They use certified organic cotton fabric, organic cotton filling, organic wool, certified organic latex. They do not use polyurethane foam or synthetic latex or blends, no glues or adhesives, and are certified Greenguard gold to prove they are formaldehyde free. They are also part of the Rainforest Alliance, proving they were sourced sustainably.

Natural Sleep

Awara is the Natural Choice

While it’s true that the Happsy mattress is sourced sustainably and is organic, it doesn’t quite measure up. It’s got a 12” heft, and both its coils and latex aren’t quite as thick as some competitors.

Here’s where Awara gets it right. The Awara mattress gives 13” of plush, cushioned support that is designed to support your body in all the right places. Its combination of organic latex and coil technology is the perfect blend of support and comfort, with 9” of premium coil and 4” of supportive latex. It’s the perfect height and feeling when you’re caressed and lifted over the individually wrapped foam-encased coils. That means excellent bounce back and a great contour for any position you sleep in.

The final deciding factor should be price, and once again Awara comes out on top. On average an Awara Queen sized mattress costs only $1,149. Compare that to the Happsy which costs almost a full third more at $1,399. Yes they are comparable in design and materials, but you’ll never get a Forever Warranty and as low a price point as the Awara mattress.
